Still Here, Still Giving Out Health Tips…

by Arline on July 25, 2009

I haven’t blogged for quite a while, but I’m still here… still thinking about you… still eager to share helpful health tips with you.

Last time, I was talking about taking time out to restore your soul.  So maybe you figured I took my own advice …for a very long time!

You’d be partly correct, if that’s what you’re thinking.  It did start out that way.  I enjoyed finishing up some personal projects I’d been putting off.

But I do have other facets of my life besides health blogging, believe it or not…………  And some of those things needed my attention.

I wish I could just spend time sharing my thoughts with you every single day. Believe me, I do.  It really feels good to be back in this blog again.

* * * * * * * * * * *

I was chatting on the phone the other day with an Internet Marketing colleague, and he mentioned in passing that his throat was getting sore.  Partly just making conversation, and partly because it’s my nature to respond in a helpful manner, I said “Oohhh, that’s not good.  Maybe you should gargle with some warm salt water, or something.  Sometimes the simple, old-fashioned remedies work the best.”

Like I said, I was mostly just giving an appropriate response, making polite conversation.  I expected that to be the end of it.  After all, we had serious business to discuss.

But Ron picked up on my remark.  He mentioned that he usually drinks some tea with lemon and honey.  I agreed with the wisdom of that approach, and then we discussed business again for a while.

I was surprised a few minutes later when Ron started asking my advice. (!!!!)  “So what do you think I should do?” he wanted to know.

“About what? …. Oh, about your throat?” I stuttered.

(My mind was on business, because I was struggling to understand some things, but he was still thinking about his poor sore throat.)

“Yeah.  Do you think I should drink the tea and also do the salt water?”

I said they’re both good ideas, and he should do both… just not both at the same time, of course.  “Drink the tea now, and try the salt water gargle in about an hour, or later on.”  (I was assuming he was in an office setting, but it might have been a home office.)

“In fact,” I continued, “since it takes a little while to make the tea, you might try putting a little bit of salt in your mouth right away while making the tea.”  I figured salt would soothe his throat immediately, and then the tea would finish the job.  He agreed to try it.

The next day Ron thanked me for the advice.  He told me he did the warm salt water gargle later on, too.  His throat was feeling much better already.  I was glad I could help.

So, it’s still true.  Even when conducting business, I just can’t help myself from reaching out to people who are suffering in one way or another.

What really amazed me, though, is that my simple advice meant something to him!  Because Ron doesn’t know me well enough yet to realize that helping people with their health issues is a passion of mine.  But somehow he perceived that I might have information that could help him.

To me it was sort of a no-brainer.  I just offered a comment in passing… but I guess my genuine desire to be helpful came through.  And that’s one reason I’m determined to get back to touching base with you …through this blog …a lot more often.  Even simple tips that I personally take for granted might be just the thing you need to hear.

So, enjoy your day… and I’ll be coming at you again soon.
